For more than 80 years, Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess has introduced Charleston to the world. In a new production mounted just blocks from Catfish Row, Spoleto Festival USA (May 27 - June 12) offers a Porgy and Bess in which the known Charleston fades into the background to reveal the roots, strength, and character of the Gullah community. Visual Designer Jonathan Green reimagines the streets of Charleston and Kittiwah Island with his signature vibrant colors and bold designs, referencing his rich knowledge of Gullah culture, weaving West African motifs into his work for what promises to be a visually stunning and deeply felt theatrical experience. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of this historically significant production by purchasing one of Green’s production sketches; a portion of the proceeds will go to Spoleto Festival USA for Porgy and Bess.
